Demo Mode

Showcase the consent banner on a demo or preview site without real Google Analytics tracking.

What It Does

When demo mode is enabled:

The consent banner always appears on every page load — clicking Accept or Decline reloads the page but the banner reappears immediately
No cookies are set — the consent cookie is never written, so the banner never hides
No tracking scripts are injected — no GA4 or GTM code is loaded, even if a Tracking ID is configured
A small "Demo" badge is shown on the consent banner so visitors know this is a demonstration

Settings

Setting	Description
Demo Mode	Toggle on/off. Default: off
Show on Page	Optional. Select a menu item to restrict the demo banner to a single page. Leave empty to show on all pages

The "Show on Page" field only appears when demo mode is enabled.

Typical Use Case

We use this mode to showcase our product on a demo site — visitors can see the consent banner in action, try different themes, positions, and animations — without setting up real Google Analytics or worrying about tracking data. Anyone can also use this mode to preview banner settings before going live, or for any scenario where you want the banner visible without actual tracking.

Install and enable the plugin on your demo site
Go to Extensions > Plugins > System - Smart Local Google Analytics
Open the Demo tab (last tab)
Set Demo Mode to Yes
Optionally select a specific page under Show on Page
Save

The banner will now appear with all configured appearance settings (theme, position, animation, dark mode, custom colors) but without any real tracking behavior.

Notes

All appearance settings (Appearance, Content, Cookie Settings) still apply in demo mode — demo mode only disables tracking and cookie persistence
Geo-detection is bypassed in demo mode — the banner shows regardless of the visitor's browser language
The demo badge is always visible when demo mode is active and cannot be hidden separately
To return to normal operation, simply set Demo Mode back to No
