Quick Start
Get Google Analytics running with proper cookie consent in three steps.
Step 1: Install & Enable
Install the plugin ZIP through System > Install > Extensions, then enable it under System > Manage > Plugins. See Installation for detailed instructions.
Step 2: Enter Your Tracking ID
- Open the plugin settings (click on the plugin name in the plugins list)
- In the Basic tab, enter your tracking ID:
- GA4 Measurement ID — starts with
G-(e.g.,G-XXXXXXXXXX) - GTM Container ID — starts with
GTM-(e.g.,GTM-XXXXXXX)
- GA4 Measurement ID — starts with
- Click Save
Tip: Don't have a tracking ID? Leave the field empty to use Legacy Mode, which auto-detects existing GA/GTM scripts in your template.
Step 3: Done
Visit your website. The consent dialog now appears for every visitor. No tracking scripts load until the visitor clicks Accept.
What Happens Next
- Visitor accepts: The GA4 or GTM tracking script is injected into the page and analytics begin recording
- Visitor declines: No scripts load, no cookies are set, no data is sent to Google
- Return visits: The consent decision is stored in a cookie, so the dialog doesn't appear again (configurable duration)
