Use Cases

These are the situations we had in mind when building Smart Local Google Analytics. They are our suggestions, not a limit. Your site will have its own needs, so adapt them as you see fit, and you may well find a use for it that we haven't thought of.

New Joomla site adding Google Analytics

  • Situation: you want GA4 or Tag Manager on your site, loaded only after visitors consent.
  • How it can help:
    • Enter your tracking ID and let managed mode inject the script after consent
    • Offer a clear accept or decline choice in the consent dialog

Template that already includes tracking code

  • Situation: your template or another extension adds GA/GTM code that you cannot remove.
  • How it can help:
    • Leave the tracking ID empty and use legacy mode
    • Existing scripts are stripped until the visitor accepts, with no template editing

Privacy-focused site

  • Situation: you want fewer direct requests from your visitors' browsers to Google.
  • How it can help:
    • Serve the tracking script from your own domain with local script hosting
    • Refresh the local copy on your own schedule

Audience across regions

  • Situation: you want the consent dialog shown to visitors with EU, EEA or UK browser languages, and other visitors handled differently.
  • How it can help:
    • Turn on geo-detection, which reads the browser language and uses no external API
    • Choose what happens for other visitors: auto-agree, show the dialog, or skip the plugin

Pages that should stay free of tracking

  • Situation: checkout, login or legal pages should not run analytics, or your own team's visits distort your statistics.
  • How it can help:
    • Select pages by menu item, component or URL pattern with page rules
    • Never track chosen user groups, such as Super Users or Managers

Demo or preview site

  • Situation: you want to show the banner, or preview its settings before going live, without real tracking.
  • How it can help:
    • Turn on demo mode: the banner always appears, with no cookies and no tracking scripts
