Use Cases
These are the situations we had in mind when building Next Boards. They are our suggestions, not a limit. Your team will work differently, so adapt them to your needs, switch off the apps you don't use, and you may well find a use for it that we haven't thought of.
Team tracking a project
- Situation: a team needs to see who is doing what, and how far each piece of work has come.
- How it can help:
- Split the work into stages on a Kanban board, and set WIP limits
- Keep the description, people, dates, checklists, files and comments on each card
- Follow progress in reports
Software team
- Situation: you need a place for planned work and reported bugs.
- How it can help:
- Start from the Scrum or Bug tracker board template
- Add your own custom fields
- Use automation for routine steps when a card moves or is completed
Content calendar
- Situation: articles or posts need to be planned against publication dates.
- How it can help:
- Start from the Content calendar template
- Reschedule by dragging in the Calendar view
- See the longer picture in the Roadmap view
Agency or consultant working with clients
- Situation: each client should see their own work and nothing else.
- How it can help:
- Group boards by client in workspaces
- Keep a board Private and add only the people it concerns
- Add a client as an Observer, who can read cards and comments but change nothing
Staff or volunteers without backend access
- Situation: people need the boards but should never see the Joomla administrator.
- How it can help:
- Add a site menu item, and they work under their normal site login
- Use their existing Joomla accounts, with no separate accounts to create
- Assign site roles to a whole Joomla user group
Individuals organising their own week
- Situation: tasks arrive from several boards and by e-mail.
- How it can help:
People working on the move
- Situation: you check and update tasks away from a desk.
- How it can help:
- Open the same address on a phone to get the phone app
- When the administrator has switched it on, install the app and keep working offline
Your own setup
To try ideas safely first, install the demo data on a test site, then remove it again. Use the App Manager to keep only the parts you need.
