Next Boards shows a blank page or loads forever

1. Reload the page without the browser cache: Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows and Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac. After an update the browser may still hold the previous version.
2. Clear Joomla's cache under System → Clear Cache, and any page cache or CDN in front of the site.
3. Open the browser's developer tools (F12) and look at the Console tab. A file that fails to load with a 403 or 404 points to a security rule or an incomplete upload.
4. Install the latest pkg_nextboards_vX.Y.Z.zip again over the existing installation. This replaces the files and keeps your data.

A board I expect to see is missing

1. Check the workspace switcher in the header. If one workspace is chosen, boards of other workspaces are hidden; choose All workspaces.
2. On the boards page, check View options: "Mine" hides boards shared with you.
3. You see a board when you are on it, when it is shared with a workspace you belong to, or when it is public. Otherwise ask a board admin to add you with Share.
4. The board may be archived. Open View options → Archived boards.

"You are not allowed to…" when changing something

1. Editing cards needs the Member role on the board. Observers can only read. If you see a Join board button in the board bar, click it.
2. Stages, labels, custom fields, automation and board settings need the Admin role on the board.
3. Creating a board needs the Create boards site permission and a workspace that lets you create boards in it.
4. On a demo site with read-only mode on, nobody but a Super User can change anything. The banner at the top says so.

I cannot add a person to a board

1. Type at least two letters of their name or username.
2. On a board that belongs to a named workspace, only members of that workspace can be added. A workspace admin adds the person to the workspace first.
3. The person needs a Joomla user account on the site.

Changes are not saved, or I am asked to sign in again

1. Your Joomla session has expired. Sign in in the form that appears over the page; the interrupted action is sent again.
2. If this happens too often, raise Session Lifetime under System → Global Configuration → System.
3. Check that cookies are allowed for the site.
4. If saving fails with an error message, look at Joomla's log files in the folder set under System → Global Configuration → Logging (administrator/logs by default). Next Boards writes the real cause there and shows only a short message on screen.

An attachment will not upload

1. The file may be larger than allowed (10 MB by default) or of a type that is not on the list. Both are set under Configuration → Settings → Attachments.
2. The server's own limits may be lower: check PHP's upload_max_filesize and post_max_size.
3. The content of the file must match its extension. A renamed file is refused.
4. The board may have reached its storage limit (Storage per board on the same settings tab).
5. The web server must be able to write to media/com_nextboards/attachments/.

Notification e-mails or due reminders never arrive

1. Check that E-mail notifications is on under Configuration → Settings → Notifications & Email. The same tab lists the scheduled tasks and when they last ran.
2. Check that the person wants the e-mail: Notifications → Preferences, column E-mail. With the daily digest, e-mails arrive once a day in the morning.
3. Under System → Scheduled Tasks, the Next Boards tasks must be enabled and have a recent Last run. If they never run, Joomla's scheduler is not being triggered: see Scheduled tasks.
4. Check that the Task - Next Boards plugin is enabled under System → Plugins.
5. Check that Joomla can send mail at all: System → Global Configuration → Server → Send Test Mail.
6. The board may have Notify members switched off under Board settings → Preferences.

Someone I mentioned was not notified

1. Type @ and pick the person from the list. A name typed out by hand is not a mention.
2. Only members of the board can be mentioned.
3. The person may have switched "@mentioned" off in their preferences.

E-mails sent to my Inbox address do not become cards

1. A Super User must have switched the feature on under Configuration → Settings → E-mail to Inbox. Test the connection there shows whether the mailbox can be reached.
2. Under System → Scheduled Tasks, NextBoards - e-mail to Inbox must be enabled and have run recently.
3. The server needs PHP's imap extension. The settings page says so when it is missing.
4. The mailbox provider must deliver plus addresses (name+code@domain). Send a test message to name+test@domain and see whether it reaches the mailbox.
5. With IMAP, only unread messages are imported. Do not open the mailbox in a mail program.
6. Use your current address. New address retires the old one.
7. More than 200 e-mailed cards in 24 hours are not accepted for one user.

My calendar does not show my due dates

1. Subscribe to the address from My Tasks → Calendar feed. Do not import it as a file, or it will never update.
2. The feed holds open cards and checklist items that are assigned to you and have a due date. Cards you only watch are not in it.
3. Calendar applications refresh subscriptions on their own schedule, often every few hours.
4. After New address, the old subscription stops working. Subscribe again.

A scheduled automation did not run

1. Scheduled commands run through Joomla's Scheduled Tasks: NextBoards - scheduled automations must be enabled and running.
2. The time is in the site's time zone, not yours. The editor shows both.
3. Open the automation's Log. "Skipped" means the person who created the command can no longer edit the board; create it again as a current member.
4. Check that the Automation app is on under Configuration → Apps.

An update is listed but cannot be downloaded

1. Enter your download key under System → Update Sites, in the Next Boards entry.
2. Enable the Installer - Next Boards Update Helper plugin under System → Plugins.
3. Check that your licence on nextsoftware.dev is valid for this site's domain.

The phone shows the desktop layout, or the other way round

1. The phone app opens on screens narrower than 600 pixels. Tablets get the full version.
2. If you chose Open full version on a phone, the choice is remembered. Open the More menu in the header and choose Phone version to go back.
